LOCH LOMOND SEALIFE CENTRE NEW BREEDING AREA - FIRST BIRTH OF 2009!

The Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre celebrates it's first birth in it's new breeding area - a baby bamboo shark! The new breeding area specialises in seahorses, rays and sharks and is the first of it's kind in Scotland. Head of conservation at the centre, Mark Hind exclaims, ' I feel really privileged to have been given this opportunity to help protect and preserve many of the endangered species in our oceans'. Mark continues, 'Bamboo sharks are currently threatened under IUCN red list, and they are pretty difficult to breed'. The baby bamboo sharks will be a great exhibit in the centre and they will help raise awareness of the plights of this species in the wild.  Bamboo sharks are mainly found in the warm seas of Australia and Japan, their numbers are becoming increasingly threatened due to over fishing and human consumption. The sharks are currently on display in the Ray, Seahorse, Shark breeding and conservation are of the Loch Lomond Sea life centre. To book a residential activity trip for your school, which will include a visit to the Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre, please call 01786 891369.
